Story of the Day

I found this beautiful story on one of my favourite sites Ascen Sion (Facebook) and I knew I just had to share it with you.

A Mother’s Love

My mom only had one eye. I hated her… She was such an embarrassment. She cooked for students and teachers to support the family.   There was this one day during elementary school where my mom came to say hello to me. I was so embarrassed.   How could she do this to me? I ignored her,  threw her a hateful look and ran out. The next day at school one of my classmates said, ‘EEEE, your mom only has one eye!’ I wanted to bury myself. I also wanted my mom to just disappear. I confronted her that day and said, ‘ If you’re only gonna make me a laughing stock, why don’t you just die?’ My mom did not respond… I didn’t even stop to think for a second about what I had said, because I was full of anger. I was oblivious to her feelings. I wanted out of that house, and have nothing to do with her. So I studied real hard, got a chance to go abroad to study. Then, I got married. I bought a house of my own. I had kids of my own. I was happy with my life, my kids and the comforts. Then one day, my Mother came to visit me. She hadn’t seen me in years and she didn’t even meet her grandchildren. When she stood by the door, my children laughed at her, and I yelled at her for coming over uninvited. I screamed at her, ‘ ‘ How dare you come to my house and scare my children!’ GET OUT OF HERE! NOW!!!’  And to this, my mother quietly answered, ‘Oh, I’m so sorry. I may have gotten the wrong address,’ and she disappeared out of sight. One day, a letter regarding a school reunion came to my house. So I lied to my wife that I was going on a business trip. After the reunion, I went to the old shack just out of curiosity. My neighbours said that she died. I did not shed a single tear. They handed me a letter that she had wanted me to have.

‘My dearest son, I think of you all the time. I’m sorry that I came to your house and scared your children. I was so glad when I heard you were coming for the reunion. But I may not be able to even  get out of bed to see you. I’m sorry that I was a constant embarrassment to you when you were growing up. You see……..when you were very little, you got into an accident, and lost your eye. As a mother, I couldn’t stand watching you having to grow up with one eye. So I gave you mine. I was so proud of my son who was seeing a whole new world for me, in my place, with that eye.
With all my love to you,
Your mother.’

MORAL LESSON:
Always LOVE your parents. They are a blessing to you.

NOTE:
We only have one mom, so love her, you will come to cry when she’s gone.

Such a powerful story and lesson we can all learn from.   Even as an adult the son did not understand the sacrifice his mother made for him out of love until it was too late.  We see without understanding. Think how much better our life would be if we learned how to understand what we see. We could learn to really respect each other more.

Have a great day everyone!

A man is sitting reading his newspaper when his wife sneaks up behind him and whacks him on the head with a frying pan.
“What was that for?” he asks.

“That was for the piece of paper in your trouser pocket with the name ‘Mary Ellen’ written on it,” she replies.

“Don’t be silly,” he says, “Two weeks ago when I went to the races. Mary Ellen was the name of one of the horses I bet on.

” His wife seemed satisfied at this and apologized.

Three days later he’s again sitting in his chair reading when she nails him with an even bigger frying pan, knocking him out cold.

When he comes around he asks, “What was that for?”

“Your horse phoned!”:)

2013 French Intervention in Mali

Picture: Google Images

CNN: French Intervention in Mali  Between January and February 2013, French military forces were rapidly deployed to northern Mali.  There, they fought alongside Malian Government troops, retaking considerable territory from hostile Islamist insurgents.  This military intervention has been characterized by the movement of a significant number of self-propelled armoured vehicles through the Sahara Desert.

Al Qaeda operatives and armed members of the Nigerian Islamist sect known as Boko Haran are believed to be active within this theatre of conflict.  As of this writing, French air strikes may have killed hundreds of people here. Whether you are for or against the Intervention in Mali there is no mistaking the gratitude and relief the locals feel towards the French for freeing them from their oppressors.  (Freelance Writer B.E. Story of the Day

The Thinkers Association (Facebook)

I found this amazing story on one of my favourite sites The Thinkers Association (Facebook) and I knew I just had to share it with you.  I love how the father found a very simple but effective way to teach his son a very valuable life lesson.  If you haven’t already check us out on Facebook by clicking the F on the top right hand side of your screen and liking us.

—- The Fence —-

A short story about anger.

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper.
His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence. …
The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence.
Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down.
He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence.
Finally the day came when the boy didn’t lose his temper at all.
He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.
The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone.
The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence.
He said, “You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same.
When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one.
You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won’t matter how many times you say I’m sorry, the wound is still there.
A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one.”
As William Arthur Ward once said, “It is wise to direct your anger towards problems – not people; to focus your energies on answers – not excuses.”

Have an Amazing day!
